맨해튼 구

맨해튼(Manhattan)은 미국 뉴욕 시에 속해 있는 지역의 지명으로, 허드슨 강에 있는 맨해튼 섬 자체를 가리키기도 하고 맨해튼 섬과 몇 개의 섬 그리고 본토의 몇 블록을 포함하는 자치구를 가리키기도 한다.

맨해튼은 미국과 세계 둘 다의 주요한 상업적,재정적,문화적 중심이다.[1][2][3] 뉴스,잡지,책,다른 미디어 출판업자들 뿐 만 아니라 미국에 있는 대부분 주요한 라디오,텔레비젼,통신 회사들이 이곳에 기반을 둔다. 맨해튼은 많은 유명한 랜드마크,관광 명소,박물관,대학이 있다.또한 국제 연합의 소재지이다.

맨해튼 섬은 서쪽에 허드슨 강과 동쪽에 이스트 강에 의해 경계가 이루어진다. 북쪽에, 할렘 강은 브롱크스와 본토 미국으로부터 맨해튼을 나눈다. 란달 섬 (Randall's Island),워드 섬 (Ward's Island),이스트 강에 있는 루즈벨트 섬 (Roosevelt Island),뉴욕 항 남쪽에 거버너스 섬 (Governors Island)과 리버티 섬 (Liberty Island)을 포함하는, 몇몇 조그만 섬들은 또한 맨해튼 자치구의 일부이다.[4]
