르타
르타(산스크리트어: ऋत, "질서, 규칙, 진리, 로고스")는 브라만교에서 우주와 그 안에 있는 모든 것의 작동을 규제하고 조정하는 자연 질서의 원리이다.[1][2] 베다의 찬송가에서는 르타가 자연적, 도덕적, 희생적 질서의 적절한 기능을 궁극적으로 책임지는 것으로 묘사된다. 개념적으로 그것은 그것을 지킨다고 생각되는 명령과 규례, 총칭하여 다르마라고 불리는 계율, 그리고 그러한 계율과 관련된 개인의 행동, 즉 카르마와 밀접하게 연관되어 있으며, 이 두 용어는 결국 후기 힌두교에서 자연, 종교, 도덕 질서를 의미하는 중요한 의미로 자리잡으며 르타를 대체하게 된다.[3] 산스크리트 학자 모리스 블룸필드는 르타를 "리그베다의 가장 중요한 종교적 개념 중 하나"라고 언급하며 "종교 사상의 역사라는 관점에서 볼 때 우리는 적어도 이 개념의 역사로부터 힌두교 역사를 시작해야 할지도 모른다"고 말했다.[4]
