프랭크 앤서니 윌첵(Frank Anthony Wilczek, 1951년 5월 15일 –)은 미국의 이론 물리학자다. 양자 색역학의 점근 자유성을 데이비드 그로스와 데이비드 폴리처와 같이 발견하였고, 이 공로로 2004년 노벨 물리학상을 수상하였다.

생애

미국 뉴욕 주의 작은 마을인 미니올라(Mineola)에서 폴란드 및 이탈리아계의 가족에서 태어났다. 1970년에 시카고 대학교에서 수학을 전공하여 학사 학위를 수여받았고, 프린스턴 대학교에 대학원생으로 입학하였다. 대학원에서는 수학에서 물리학으로 전공을 바꾸었고, 데이비드 그로스 아래 공부하였다. 1973년 7월 3일 베치 디바인(Betsy Devine)과 혼인하였다.

1973년, 아직 대학원생일 때, 데이비드 그로스와 같이 양자 색역학의 점근 자유성을 증명하였다. (이와 독자적으로 데이비드 폴리처도 같은 사실을 증명하였다.) 훗날 윌첵은 이 공로로 노벨 물리학상을 수여받게 된다. 1974년 프린스턴 대학교에서 물리학 박사 학위를 수여받았다.

그 뒤 프린스턴 고등연구소와 캘리포니아 대학교 샌타바버라 캐블리 연구소(Kavli Institute)에 있었다. 오늘날 매사추세츠 공과대학교 물리학과 교수다.
