환자 (역사)
환자(宦者, Eunuch)는 거세된 남성이며, 특정한 사회적 기능을 수행하기 위해 거세된[1] 사람을 말한다. 정부에 고용된 환자는 환관이라고 한다.
환자가 되기 위해 의도적인 거세를 한 최초의 기록은 기원전 21세기 수메르의 도시 라가시로 언급되어 있다.[2][3]
