붕장어과(Congridae)는 뱀장어목에 속하는 조기어류 분류군이다. 뱀장어와 비슷하며, 길쭉한 체형의 바닷 물고기부터 식용이나 관상용으로 이용되는 종류까지 다양한 종을 포함하고 있다. 30여 속, 150여 종 이상의 종류가 알려져 있다.[1] 좋아하는 환경과 수심은 종류에 따라 다르다. 암초 지역, 얕은 바다, 심해 등과 같은 다양한 환경에서 다양한 종류가 서식한다. 붕장어를 포함하고 있다.
