켄포 소달지

켄포 소달지(티베트어: མཁན་པོ བསོད་དར་རྒྱས, 영어: Khenpo Sodargye, 중국어: 堪布索达吉)는 1962년 캄(康區)이라고 알려진 티베트 동부 지역에서 태어났다. 1985년 중국 쓰촨성에 위치한 라롱 오명불학원에서 출가하였다. 이 불학원은 세계에서 가장 큰 불교 대학이다[1][2][3][4]. 그는 당대의 뛰어난 대덕 중 한 명인 켄쳔 직메푼촉 린포체(Khenchen Jigme Phuntsok Rinpoche)로부터 직접 가르침을 받고 수행하였다[5][6][7][8].

켄포 소달지는 불교 전통 철학 경전 과정을 깊이 있게 수학하였으며, 또한 티베트 불교의 완전한 전승을 받았다.(《중관(中觀)》 《반야(般若)》 《구사(俱捨)》 《계율(戒律)》 《인명(因明》의 오부대론에서부터, 《대원만(大圓滿)》, 《시륜금강(時輪金剛)》, 마이펑 린포체의 《밀장속(密藏續)》, 롱친바(龍欽巴)의 《칠보장(七寶藏)》, 《삼대휴식(三大休息)》을 포함한다.) 이후 라롱 오명불학원의 관리자로 임명이 되고, 주요한 교수 중 한 명이 되었다. 그는 직미푼촉 린포체 생전 시 린포체의 가르침을 중국 제자들에게 전달하는 통역가였고 후에 린포체는 중국 제자들을 그가 가르치도록 임명하였다.[9][10][11]

켄포 소달지는 이미 당대의 저명한 불교 대덕 중 한 명이 되었다[12]. 티베트 라마(lama)승으로서, 불교 학자이자 선생님이며, 다작의 티베트어와 중국어 번역가로, 그리고 현대 불교 사상가로, 켄포 소달지는 전통 불교의 가르침을 글로벌 이슈와 현대의 삶에 적용하는 노력으로 아시아는 물론 서양에까지 명성을 얻고 있다.

켄포 소달지는 중국뿐 아니라 아시아의 다른 지역과 오세아니아, 유럽, 아프리카, 북미의 여러 지역에서 강연했다. 최근에는 베이징대, 칭화대, 하버드대, 컬럼비아대, 예일대[13], 프린스턴대, 스탠퍼드대[14], 옥스퍼드대, 케임브리지대, 토론토 대학, 맥길 대학, 오클랜드 대학, 멜버른 대학, 동경대, 와세다대, 싱가포르 국립대학, 대만 국립대학, 홍콩 대학, 괴팅겐 대학 등 다수의 명문 대학에서 강연을 했다.

켄포는 자주 말한다. “내가 얼마 동안 살지는 모른다. 하지만, 단 한 명이라도 듣는 사람이 있다면, 마지막 숨을 거두는 순간까지 불법(佛法)을 통해 그에게 이익이 되도록 온 힘을 다하겠다”

불법(佛法)의 전파[편집]

1987년 켄포는 직미푼촉 린포체를 동행하여 우타이산(五台山)으로 성지 순례를 가면서 중국 제자들을 받기 시작했다. (비구, 비구니, 남성, 여성 재가 신자)

1990년부터 1999년에는 직미푼촉 린포체와 동행하여 미국, 캐나다, 프랑스, 독일, 네덜란드, 영구, 부탄, 인도, 네팔, 싱가포르, 말레이시아, 태국, 일본 등 세계 여러 나라에서 불법을 전했다.

2006년, 켄포는 인터넷, DVD와 같은 현대 미디어를 통해 가르침을 전파함으로써 더 많은 불자들이 체계적인 교육을 받을 수 있도록 하였다.

2013년 4월, 켄포는 미국과 유럽의 귄위 있는 대학들로부터 초청을 받아 강연하였다.

2013년 11월, 켄포는 동남아시아의 대학들로부터 초청을 받아 강연하였다.

2014년 11월, 켄포는 뉴질랜드, 호주, 캐나다, 미국의 대학들과 불법(佛法) 센터로부터 초청 받아 강연하였다.

자선 활동[편집]

2007년, 켄포는 자선 프로젝트 출범을 통해 불교 신자들이 일상생활에서 자애와 자비심을 배양하고 어려운 이웃을 돕도록 장려했다. ‘지혜와 자비 초등학교’ ‘승려 학교’들을 세우고, 연로한 재가 신자의 수행을 돕기 위해 양로원을 세웠다. 2011년 2월부터, 켄포는 ‘상하이 자혜(慈慧) 공익 기금회’의 명예 회장을 맡고 있다.[24]

출간물 요약[편집]

켄포는 불법을 가르치고 번역하는 데 전력하고 있다. 지금까지, 100권 이상의 불법(佛法) 관련 책들이 출간되었다. 그의 모든 번역서(티베트어를 중국어로 번역)는 ‘현법(顯法)과 밀법(密法)의 보고(寶庫)’ 시리즈에[25], 그의 저작물들은 ‘묘법(妙法)의 보고(寶庫)’ 시리즈에[26], 그리고 그가 구두로 한 가르침은 ‘지혜와 자비의 보고(寶庫)’ 시리즈[27]”에 분류되어 있다.
