"Washington, DC…On Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at 2:30 p.m., the National Archives will present a discussion with Liam Wyatt, Wikimedia Foundation Cultural Partnerships Fellow and former Wikipedian in Residence at the British Museum, on the importance and advantages of making information findable and usable in a digital world. This event is free and open to the public and will take place in the William G. McGowan Theater of the National Archives Building in Washington, DC. Attendees should use the Special Events Entrance, located on Constitution Ave. and 7th Street, NW. Metro accessible on the Yellow and Green lines, Archives/Navy Memorial/Penn Quarter station.

Liam Wyatt is an Australian Wikipedian and an information access advocate. He is a graduate of the University of New South Wales where he received the university medal in history for his thesis “The Academic Lineage of Wikipedia”. He is a leader in the effort to build collaborative relationships between cultural institutions such as galleries, libraries, archives and museums (collectively known as GLAMs) and Wikimedia communities.

Liam Wyatt regularly promotes the importance of open access to information at museum events around the world. He convened world’s first GLAM-WIKI conference in Canberra, Australia in 2009, followed by an international conference in London in 2010. Liam also holds the title of first Wikipedian in Residence, a post he originated at the British Museum that same year. In January, the Wikimedia Foundation announced that he had been selected as a Cultural Partnerships Fellow, a year-long position during which Liam will continue his work building foundations for GLAM-Wikipedia cooperation."
