《Out of the Blue》는 1977년 10월에 발매된 영국의 프로그레시브 록 밴드 일렉트릭 라이트 오케스트라(ELO)의 일곱 번째 스튜디오 음반이다. ELO의 선두주자인 제프 린이 작곡하고 프로듀싱한 이 더블 음반은 그룹 역사상 가장 상업적으로 성공한 음반 중 하나로 전 세계적으로 약 1천만 장이 팔렸다.[10]

커버 아트[편집]

음반 커버(지금까지 그룹의 상징)에 달린 대형 우주선은 존 코쉬가 나가오카 슈세이에 의해 예술로 디자인했다. 이 음반은 ELO의 이전 음반인 《A New World Record》를 위해 디자인된 로고를 기반으로 한 음반으로[11], 《2001: 스페이스 오디세이》(1968년)의 도킹 셔틀이 달린 우주정거장처럼 보인다.[12] 우주정거장에 도착하는 우주왕복선에 등장하는 JTLA 823 L2는 이 음반의 원래 카탈로그 번호다. 이 음반에는 우주정거장의 마분지 컷아웃 인서트와 밴드 멤버들의 접이식 포스터도 포함되어 있었다. 우주 테마는 밴드가 공연한 거대한 빛나는 비행접시 무대 세트의 형태로 라이브 무대로 옮겨졌다.
