IOP 출판사(IOP Publishin, 종전 명칭은 Institute of Physics Publishing )는 영국 물리학회(Institute of Physics)의 출판사로 학술지, 커뮤니티 웹사이트, 잡지, 회의록 및 서적을 포함하여 과학연구를 전 세계로 배포하는 간행물을 제공한다. 영국 물리학회는 물리학의 실습, 이해 및 적용을 늘리는 데 전념하는 과학 자선 단체이다. IOP 출판사에서 벌어들인 재정적 잉여금은 연구소 활동을 통하여 물리학을 지원하는 데 사용되고 있다.
IOP 출판사의 주요 본사는 영국 브리스톨에 있는데 북미 본사는 미국 필라델피아에 있으며 멕시코시티, 베이징, 도쿄, 모스크바, 상트페테르부르크, 시드니에는 각각 지역 사무소를 두고 있고, 400명 이상의 직원을 고용하고 있다.
이 출판사는 인터넷으로 저널을 출판한 최초의 물리학 출판사로, 1994년에 Classical and Quantum Gravity 저널을 TeX 파일로 출판하였고, 1996년 1월에는 월드 와이드 웹 상에서 완전한 전자저널 출판을 다른 물리학 출판사보다 앞서 시작했다.[1]
영국 물리학회(Institute of Physics)의 월간지인 《물리학 세상》(Physics World)는1988년 10월에 창간되었는데,[2] IOP 출판사에서 발행한 《물리학 세상》 저널은 에디 디지털 어워드(Eddie Digital Awards) 상을 협회/비영리(B-to-B) 브랜드의 앱/디지털 에디션 부문에서 수상했다. 또한 오지 어워드(Ozzie Awards)의 회사/비영리(B-to-B) 부문에서 영예로운 최고 '디자인 커버' 상을 받았다.[3]

서적
[편집]IOP 출판사는 2005년에 책 출판 사업부( Adam Hilger 임프린트 포함)를 테일러 & 프랜시스사에 매각했다.[5] 최근 출판 환경과 전자책 수요의 중대한 변화로 인해 IOP 출판사는 2012년에 전자책 프로그램을 시작했다.[6] IOP 출판사는 모건 & 클레이풀과 파트너십을 맺어 연구 경력의 초기 단계에 있거나 연구 분야에 보다 광범위하게 그리고 여러 분야에 걸쳐 접근하고자 하는 연구자들에게 초점을 맞춘 도서 프로그램을 진행하였다.[7] 2014년 IOP 출판사와 미국 천문학회는 우주에 대한 인류의 과학적 이해를 향상시키고 공유하려는 AAS의 사명의 일환으로 전자책 출판 파트너십을 발표하였다.[8]
