회색기러기(greylag goose, Anser anser)는 오리과에 속하는 기러기의 종이다. 회색의 흰 깃털을 가졌고 부리는 오렌지색이며 다리는 분홍빛을 낸다. 큰 새의 경우 길이는 74~91 센티미터이며 몸무게는 평균 3.3 kg이다.

유럽과 아시아의 북부의 새들이 더 따뜻한 곳에서 겨울을 나기 위해 남쪽으로 이동하는 것을 포함하여 그 분포 범위는 넓은 편이다. 기러기속의 모식종이며 적어도 기원전 1,360년에 가축화된 유럽거위의 조상이다. 속의 이름은 anser에서 비롯되며, 이는 "거위"를 뜻하는 라틴어 낱말이다.

분류

회색기러기(학명: Anser anser)는 오리과에 속한다. 1758년에 스웨덴의 칼 폰 린네가 처음 기재하였으나 2년 뒤에 프랑스의 동물학자 마투랭 자크 브리송이 발제한 새로운 기러기속으로 옮겨졌고 회색기러기종은 여기에서 모식종이 된다.

2개의 아종이 인식된다:

• A. a. anser: 서부 회색기러기는 아이슬란드와 유럽 북부, 중부에 서식한다.
• A. a. rubrirostris: 동부 회색기러기는 중국 북동부에서 동쪽 방향에 위치한 루마니아, 터키, 러시아에 서식한다.

개요

회색기러기의 길이는 74~91 센티미터이며 날개 길이는 41.2~48 센티미터이다. 양 날개를 다 펼쳤을 때 한쪽 날개 끝에서 다른 쪽 날개 끝까지의 길이는 147~180 센티미터이다. 몸무게는 2.16~4.56 킬로그램이며 평균 몸무게는 대략 3.3 킬로그램이다.

회색기러기는 육지에서나 비행 중에 "앙웅웅"하는 소리를 낸다. 각기 다른 환경에서 사소한 차이가 있으며 이러한 소리를 통해 다른 기러기들을 식별할 수 있는 것으로 보인다. 여러 무리에서 나는 소리는 사냥개가 짖는 소리를 닮았다.
