파킹 브레이크(parking brake) 또는 주차 브레이크, 핸드 브레이크(hand brake), e-brake(emergency brake)[1]는 도로 차량에서 주차 시 차량을 움직임 없이 안전하게 유지시키기 위해 사용되는 매커니즘이다. 역사적으로 주 유압 브레이크 고장이 발생할 때 긴급 정지 수행을 지원하기 위해서도 사용되었다.[2] 파킹 브레이크는 이륜 브레이크에 연결되는 케이블로 구성되는 경우가 있으며 풀링 매커니즘에 연결된다. 대부분의 차량에서 파킹 브레이크는 후륜에서만 동작하며,[3] 브레이크를 하는 동안 정지 마찰력을 감소시킨다.
개요
자동변속기가 있는 차량의 경우 파킹 브레이크는 원래 긴급 정지(예를 들어 발 브레이크가 유압을 소실하거나 기타 기능 이상으로 인해 완전히 고장이난 경우)를 하도록 고안되었다.[4]
