International Conference for the Integration of Science and Technology into Society는 국제 대학생 컨퍼런스ICISTS-KAIST를 개최하기 위해 설립된 비영리단체이다. ICISTS가 매년 개최하는 ICISTS-KAIST에서는 과학기술이 사회와 융합되는 것의 중요성과 그 방법에 대해 논의한다. 2003년에 설립되어 2005년부터 매년 KAIST에서 컨퍼런스를 개최하였으며 지금까지 'The First Step to the Future Leader', 'Design for the Future : Promising Fields of Science and Technology', 'Powered by Diversity, Harness by Unity', 'Powered by Diversity, Harness by Unity', 'Designing the Future through Science and Technology'등의 주제를 각 컨퍼런스의 슬로건으로 내세웠다. ICISTS는 또한 장기적으로 미래를 이끌어갈 리더들간의 교류를 도모한다.
Foundation of ICISTS
[편집]ICISTS는 2003년 11월 HPAIR-KAIST라는 명칭으로 창립되었다. HPAIR-KAIST는 미국 Harvard 대학교 학생단체인 HPAIR의 공식 division (or Network Club)으로 등록되었으며, 2006년 8월 이후 HPAIR에서는 Network Club을 Partnership Club으로 개칭하였다. 2006년 8월 HPAIR에서 Harvard라는 명칭의 사용을 금지함에 따라 HPAIR-KAIST에서 ICISTS로 단체명이 변경되었다.
설립 후 지도교수 섭외에 많은 노력을 기울였으며, KAIST 바이오시스템학과 (현 바이오 및 뇌공학과) 이광형 교수, KAIST 테크노경영대학원 이창양 교수, KAIST 인문사회과학부 윤정로 교수가 선임되었다.
2004년 3월 22일에 열린 HPAIR-KAIST 설명회에는 약 60명이 참가하였으며, 지원자 수는 약 40명이었다. 4개의Essay Questions 작성과 Interview를 통해 총 13명이 최종선발되어 2004년 여름, 첫 Recruitment에 참가하였다.
