가웨인(영어: Gawain /ɡəˈweɪn/,[ˈɡawain]; Gwalchmei, Gualguanus, Gauvain, Walwein, 등으로 불리었다.)은 아서왕의 조카이자 아서 왕 전설에 나오는 원탁의 기사 중 한 명이며 Gwalchmei라는 이름으로 불린 그는 전설의 발달 중 매우 이른 시기에 등장하였다고 초기 웨일스의 아서 왕 전설 기록 중 몇몇에서 언급된다.

그는 랜슬롯·갤러해드와 더불어 가장 훌륭한 기사들 중 하나로서 언급되는 원탁의 기사로 선택받은 사람 중 한 명이었으며 특히 가웨인 경 혹은 태양의 기사로 불리었다. 몇몇 작품들에서, 가웨인 경은 태양의 기사로 보통 등장한다. 그는 아서왕의 누이인 모르간과 오크니와 로디언의 왕인 로트 사이에서 태어났으며 그의 동생에는 아그라베인, 가히레스, 가레스 그리고 모드레드가 있다. 몇몇 전설에 따르면, 가웨인은 갈라틴이라는 명검을 소유하고 있으며, 아서왕의 통치 이후 정당한 카멜롯 왕좌의 상속자였었다고 한다.

가웨인은 보통 무섭지만 정중하며 또한 다정한 기사로 아서 왕과 그의 가족에게 항상 충성을 다했다. 그는 또한 어린이들의 기사였고 가난한 사람들의 수호자였으며 여성들의 수호자로서 “여성들의 기사”라고도 불리었다. 몇몇 연구에 의하면 그의 힘은 태양이 있을 때 강력해진다고 한다. 즉, 정오에 그의 힘은 3배가 되나, 태양이 질수록 희미해진다. 가웨인은 이탈리아에 존재하는 1184년에 건축된 모데나 성당의 북문 건축물에 등장할 뿐만 아니라 영국, 프랑스 그리고 켈트 문화에서도 등장한다.
