까마귀속(Corvus)은 갈까마귀 등의 40여종을 포함한다. 윤기가 나는 검은 깃털을 가지고 있다. 대체로 조류 가운데 가장 머리가 좋은 부류 가운데 하나로 알려져 있다.[1] 실제 예로, 까마귀는 호두를 길바닥에 놓아두었다가 차가 지나가면서 부수면 주워먹을 정도로 영리하다. 잡식성 동물로써 농작물, 음식물 쓰레기등 다양한 먹이를 먹을 만큼 적응력이 뛰어나다.
