SAR 대형군은 부등편모조류(Stramenopiles)와 알베올라타(Alveolates) 그리고 리자리아(Rhizaria)를 포함하고 있는 생물군이다.[1][2][3][4]
명칭 내의 "SAR"은 각 포함된 각 생물군의 알파벳 첫 글자를 딴 것이다.
크로말베올라타 생물군 내의 대부분의 생물을 포함하고 있지만, 하크로비아(Hacrobia)는 포함하고 있지 않다.
