옥시덴탈리즘

옥시덴탈리즘(occidentalism)은 다음과 같은 2가지 방식의 서양(옥시덴트)의 인식을 가리킨다: 첫째로는 서부 세계, 유럽, 아메리카, 오스트레일리아, 뉴질랜드, 남아프리카 공화국, 이스라엘의 비인간적 편견에 관한 인식. 둘째로는 "Occidentalism: A Theory of Counter-Discourse in Post-Mao China" (1995)(Chen Xiaomei; "Occidentalism: Images of the West" (1995), by James G. Carrier 및 "Occidentalism: The West in the Eyes of its Enemies" (2004), 이안 부루마, 아비샤이 마갈리트 저)에 해당되는 서부 세계의 이념적 표현을 가리킨다. 옥시덴탈리즘은 에드워드 사이드가 자신의 책 오리엔탈리즘이라는 책에서 오리엔탈리즘이라는 용어의 반의어로 종종 사용되는데, 이 용어는 동양, 즉 오리엔트의 서양 세계의 편견을 의미한다.
