글로벌산업분류기준
글로벌산업분류기준[1](Global Industry Classification Standard, GICS)은 1999년 MSCI 및 S&P가 개발한 산업 분류 체계이다. GICS는 11개의 부문(sector), 24개의 산업 그룹, 69개의 산업 및 158개의 하위 산업으로 구성되어 있다.[2] S&P는 현존하는 주요 공개 회사들을 이 분류체계로 분류하였다. FTSE 그룹에서 개발한 ICB(산업분류벤치마크)와 유사점을 갖고 있다.
GICS 체계는 S&P 및 MSCI 금융 시장 지수의 바탕으로 사용되는데, 이 지수에 포함되는 각 기업들은 주요 비즈니스 활동을 바탕으로 GICS의 하위 산업, 산업, 산업 그룹 및 부문에 할당된다.
"GICS"는 McGraw Hill Financial 및 MSCI Inc.의 등록 상표이다.[3][4]

개정판
[편집]GICS 분류 기준은 S&P의 다우 존스 지수 및 MSCI에 의해 정기적으로 갱신되는데, 수년에 걸친 많은 변화로 인해 여러 하위 산업, 산업 또는 산업 그룹이 추가, 삭제 또는 재정의되었다.[5] 1999년 이후, 부문(섹터)에 관하여 두 차례의 개정이 있었다 :
- 2016년 부동산 산업 그룹 (모기지 REIT 제외)이 금융(Financial) 부문에서 새로 추가된 부동산(Real Estate) 부문으로 이동했다.[6]
- 2018년에 통신 서비스(Telecommunication service) 부문이 커뮤니케이션 서비스(Communication service)로 명칭이 변경되며, 기존의 소비자 임의 부문에 포함되어 있었던 미디어 및 엔터테인먼트 기업과, 정보 기술 부문에 있었던 인터랙티브 미디어 서비스 기업이 포함되어는 형태로 확대되었다.[7]
