잭슨-길트 메달

잭슨-길트 메달(Jackson-Gwilt Medal)은 1897년부터 왕립천문학회에서 수여하는 상이다. 원래의 기준은 천문 기구나 기술의 발명, 개선 또는 개발, 관측 천문학에서의 업적 또는 천문학 역사 연구 성과이었다. 2017년부터 천문학 부문의 역사가 삭제되고 이는 새로운 상인 아그네스 메리 클러크 메달로 이전되었다.[1]

메달의 수여 빈도는 시간에 따라 다양하였다. 처음에는 시상 사이에 3년에서 5년 사이의 간격이 있는 불규칙적이었다. 1968년부터는 3년마다 정기적으로 수여되었고, 2004년부터는 2년마다, 2008년부터는 매년 수여하고 있다.

이상은 한나 잭슨 길트(길트는 결혼 전, 잭슨은 결혼 후의 성씨임)의 이름을 따서 명명되었다. 그녀는 조세프 길트 (건축가이자 왕립천문학회 회원)의 조카이자 조지 길트 (또 다른 회원)의 딸이었다. 한나는 메달을 위한 최초의 기금을 기부했다.[2] 이 상은 왕립천문학회 금메달 다음의 두번째로 오래된 상이다.[2]
