2023 Telangana phone-tapping case is a ongoing phone-tapping case in the Indian state of Telangana since December 2023. The case has come into lime light following the suspension of a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) at the state Special Intelligence Bureau (SIB) on 4 December 2023, the day after the 2023 Telangana Legislative Assembly election results were declared. The case is currently being investigated and monitored by a special team led by an ACP rank officer.
Background[편집]
On 4 December 2023, just the next day after the 2023 Telangana Legislative Assembly election results were announced in the state of Telangana, Praneeth Rao, DSP at the state SIB, was suspended[3] following the complaint by D. Ramesh, Additional SP at the SIB alleging Praneeth Rao has replaced 42 hard drives containing illegally curated information of several individuals to his personal drives and were destroyed and replaced with new ones to the Punjagutta police.[4][5]
Timeline[편집]
4 December 2024 - DSP of the state SIB, Praneeth Rao, was suspended over allegations of dismantling and destroying equipment that held data related to alleged phone tapping and illegal surveillance. This was reportedly done by turning off the CCTV cameras.
10 March 2024 - A complaint was lodged by Additional SP of the state SIB, D. Ramesh, with the Panjagutta police against the suspended officer.[6]
