무선전신기

무선전신기(영어: wireless telegraph)란 마르코니가 1896년 발명한 배와 비행기의 전신통신을 할 때 이용된 통신기이다.
무선전신기의 원리[편집]
무선전신기는 송신기에서 보낸 전파를 수신기에서 받아들여 통신하는 것이다. 그런데 파동은 어떤 시스템에서 다른 시스템으로 전달될 때 특정한 주파수(전파나 음파가 1초 동안에 진동하는 횟수)에서만 잘 전달된다. 이를 '공명' 현상이라고 한다. 즉 양쪽 시스템의 고유한 공명 진동수가 같을 때 전파가 잘 전달되는 것이다. 무선전신기의 예를 생각해보면 A가 10, 20, 30Hz(헤르츠)의 주파수를 발생시킬 수 있는 송신기를 가지고 있고, B는 10, 30, 40Hz, C는 5, 15, 30Hz를 받아들일 수 있는 수신기를 가지고 있다고 하자. A가 10Hz의 전파에 자신의 음성을 실어 보내면 B와 C는 주파수를 10Hz에 맞추어야만 공명에 의해 전파를 수신할 수 있다. 하지만 C는 10Hz에 맞출 수 없으므로 A의 신호를 수신할 수 없다. 만약 A가 30Hz의 신호를 보내면 B와 C 둘 다 수신이 가능해 진다. 이를 통해 암호나 정보를 통신했다.
라디오 수신과의 관계[편집]
라디오 수신도 똑같은 원리다. 방송국에서 특정한 주파수에 음악 등을 실어 보내면 우리는 라디오 수신기로 그 주파수에 맞추어 신호를 받아들이는 것이다. 예를 들어 KBS는 89.1MHz, MBC는 91.9MHz로 방송을 내보내는데, 라디오주파수를 89.1MHz에 맞추면 공명현상에 의해 KBS만 들리고 MBC에서 내보낸 신호는 라디오에 들어오지 않는 것이다.
무선전신기의 이용[편집]
무선통신은 통신 역사의 혁명을 가져왔다. 무선으로 통신이 가능해져 배와 비행기와의 서로간의 통신이 가능해지며, 멀리 떨어져 있는 곳도 케이블 없이 통신이 가능해지게 된다.
