리르 렌댜이스

리르 렌댜이스(웨일스어: Llŷr Llediaith [ˈɬɨːr ˈɬɛdjaiθ])는 웨일스 신화에 등장하는 인물로, 본래는 신이었을 것으로 생각된다.

〈리르의 딸 브란웬〉에 따르면 그는 페나르딘과의 사이에 브란, 브란웬, 마나위단 남매를 낳았다.[1]

〈브리튼의 삼인조〉에 따르면 에우로수이드가 리르를 잡아 가두고,[2] 페나르딘을 아내로 취했다고 한다.[3] 페나르딘은 에우로수이드와의 사이에 니시엔과 에브니시엔이라는 두 아들을 낳았다.[1]

중요 인물들의 아버지 및 할아버지임에도 불구하고 리르 본인의 정보는 매우 불투명하다. 리르는 아일랜드 신화의 바다의 신 마난난 막 리르의 아버지 레르와 동일시되고 있으며,[4] 이에 따라 리르를 바다의 신으로 추측하기도 한다.

윌리엄 셰익스피어의 희곡 《리어왕》은 몬머스의 제프리가 쓴 기록에 나오는 전설적인 왕 레이르왕을 소재로 한 것인데, 이 레이르왕은 리르에서 유래한 것일 가능성이 있다.[5]
