th and is divided into three sections, the first ata gradient of 12-27 : 100, the two upper ones at a gradient of 40-60: 100. Carriages are changed at the intermediate stations ofKalti (2343) and Blumatt (4006). The terminal station (6065) isat the hotel. Good paths lead hence, skirting the Adlerfluh, or S.slope, past various points of view, and then ascend to the top (6236).The *View is magnificent (comp. the opposite Panorama). Oppositeus, to the S.E., about 12 M. distant, are the Engelberg Alps withthe imposing Titlis; to the S., the beautiful chain of the BerneseAlps (20-30 M.); to the S.W. the Obwalden Mts. with the lake ofSarnen; to the N\W. and N. the Lake of Lucerne and the hill-countrywith the lakes of Zng, Baldegg, Hallwil, and Sempach. — On the S.side of the summit is an experimental plantation of the FederalInstitution of Forestry. The ascent of the Stanser Horn on foot takes 3/4-4 hrs. from Stans(red way-marks), but is preferable from Dallenwil (p. 157), on the S. side.
