English: Inscription from one of the gates of the Roman port of Ostia Antica. According to an interpretation by F. Zevi (1998) the latin inscription reads:
SENATVS POPVLVSQVE ROMANVS COLONIAE OSTIENSIVM MVROS ET PORTAS DEDIT M. TVLLIVS CICERO CO(n)S(ul) FECIT CVRAVITQUE[?] P. CLODIVS PVLCHER TR(ibunus) PL(ebis) CONSVMMAVIT ET PROBAVIT PORTAM VETVSTATE CORRVPTAM [...]
This can be loosely translated as: "The senate of Rome gave Ostia these walls and gates, constructed under the guidance of Consul M. Tullius Cicero, completed by Tribune P. Clodius Pulcher, which had long been ruined."
