콜드 리딩
콜드 리딩(cold reading)은 유심론자, 초능력자, 점쟁이, 영매, 일루셔니스트(독자), 사기꾼들이 사용하는 기법들의 모임으로, 독자가 알고 있는 것보다 해당 사람에 대해 더 많이 알고 있음을 암시하기 위해 사용한다.[1] 사전 지식 없이 훈련된 콜드리더(cold-reader)는 사람의 신체 언어, 나이, 옷, 패션, 머리 모양, 사회적 성, 성적 지향, 종교, 인종, 민족, 교육 수준, 말하는 방식, 장소 등 빠르게 상당한 정보를 터득할 수 있다. 콜드 리딩은 일반적으로 높은 확률의 추측을 활용하며 추측이 올바른 방향으로 흘러가는지 아닌지에 대한 신호를 빠르게 파악한다. 심리학자들은 포러 효과, 그리고 사람들 속의 확증 편향으로 인해 이것이 동작한다고 믿는다.[2]
