정상욱은 한국의 물리학 과학자이다. 그는 물리학계에서 저명한 상에 해당하는 James C. McGroddy상을 한국인 최초로 수여 받았다. 주목할 만한 업적으로는 'Enhanced physical functionalities in complex materials originating from collective correlations and collective phase transitions such as colossal magnetoresistive and colossal magnetoelectric effects in complex oxides' 관련 논문을 게재하였다. 국제적인 학회지들의 논문 피인용수에 근거하면 노벨상 수상에 근접한 과학자이다.[1]
