The intended design of Wanstead House as published in Colen Campbell 's Vitruvius Britannicus in the early 18th century. The scale bar shows 100 ft. This design extends 200 ft. (61 metres). The house was actually built without the top storey on the wings, but with two additional bays at each end. That is, with a central block of nine bays, including the five spanned by the portico, and two six bay wings. This gave a total width of 260 feet. Campbell also produced an unimplemented proposal to add four towers at the corners of the version of the house that was built.
