Institute of Body & Culture[편집]

Institute of Body & Culture (IBC) was established in 2007 to study various body-related cultural phenomena academically. Currently IBC has its headquarters in the Heavy Experimental Building at Konkuk University in Seoul, South Korea and has been designated and funded as a Leading Research Center by the Ministry of Education since 2017. Responding to these academic climates, IBC have done interdisciplinary, collaborative, integrated studies on body-related issues, such as suicide, social discrimination, violence, sexuality, boredom, spatiality, affect and so on. IBC develops these issues in terms of posthumanism, environmentalism, technoscience, Feminism, medicine, etc.

Director of IBC[편집]

Professor Kim Jonggab (1959 ~ ) is the founding director of Institute of Body & Culture and professor of English Department at Konkuk University in Seoul, South Korea. In 1992 he earned a PhD in English literature from Louisiana State University at Baton Rouge, USA. In recognition of his academic achievement, Konkuk University named him the most distinguished scholar of 2010. His interests are interdisciplinary, covering literary theory, rhetoric, feminism, cultural studies, and post-humanism. Since 2000 has been reading and writing bodied related topics and about cultural embodiment. These days he is preoccupied with the question about methodology of body studies. He published many books and articles , including The Modern Body and Its Postmodern Symptoms (2008) and Disgust: The Politics of Emotion in Korean (2017).
