문화전쟁

문화전쟁(culture war) 또는 문화충돌(culture conflict )은 전통주의자(보수주의적 가치관)와 진보주의자(사회민주주의, 진보주의, 자유주의적 가치관) 사이의 충돌을 말한다. 1990년에 시작된 문화 전쟁은 미국의 공립 학교 역사와 과학 교육과정 뿐만 아니라 많은 다른 주제에 대한 논쟁에 영향을 주었다. 문화 전쟁이라는 표현은 미국에 제임스 헌터가 1991년 출판한 책(James Davison Hunter, Culture Wars: The Struggle to Define America)에서 시작되었다. 헌터는 낙태, 주와 연방정부의 총기법, 기후 온난화, 이민, 교회와 국가의 분리, 사유화, 오락용 마약 사용, 동성애, 그리고 검열과 같은 주제를 포함한 미국의 정치와 문화를 변형시키는 재편성과 양극화를 인식하였다.
