브루스 매닝 메츠거 (Bruce Manning Metzger, 1914년 2월 9일 – 2007년 2월 13일) 는 미국의 성서학자, 성경 번역가 및 본문 비평가이다. 프린스턴 신학교에서 오랫동안 교편을 잡았으며 미국 성서 협회 및 유나이티드 바이블 소사이어티(UBS)의 중역이었다. 그리스어 신약성경의 권위자로 알려져 있으며, 신약성경의 본문 비평에 관하여 많은 저서를 남겼다. 20세기 신약성경학자로 가장 영향을 끼친 인물 중 하나로 언급된다.[1][2][3]

메츠거는 성경 번역에 관하여 많은 주석과 여러 저서를 남겼다. 그는 현대의 신약 성경의 번역판들의 바탕으로 이용되는 UBS 표준 그리스어 신약성경의 편집자였다. 1952년 성경 RSV 판의 기여자였으며 1982년에 출간한 리더스 다이제스트 성경(RSV의 축약판)의 편집자였다. 1977년부터 1979년까지 그는 NRSV판의 번역 위원회의 의장을 역임하였으며, 개신교 측에서 위경으로 취급하나 로마 가톨릭 및 동방 정교회에서 제2경전으로 받아들이는 부분을 포함한 NRSV판을 교황 요한 바오로 2세 및 데메트리우스 1세 콘스탄티노플 총대주교에 제공하기도 하였다. 

그의 신약성경에 관한 성경학적 기여의 대표로 꼽히는 3부작으로, The Text of the New Testament: Its Transmission, Corruption, and Restoration (1964; 2nd ed., 1968; 3d enlarged ed., 1992); The Early Versions of the New Testament: Their Origin, Transmission, and Limitations (1977); The Canon of the New Testament: Its Origin, Development, and Significance (1987)가 있다.[4] 그는 1960년에 공개된 New Testament Tools and Studies 시리즈의 첫권을 편집하였다.

메츠거는 경전에 관한 논증에서, 특정한 문서를 권위있는 경전이자 종교적 행위 안에서 읽혀질 대상으로 받아들이기 위한 세가지 기준을 언급하였다. 정통성(신앙의 규약에 합치됨), 사도적 성격, 여러 교회 사이에 총의가 존재해야 함 등으로 명시되는 [6] 이들 조건에 대해, '2세기의 시기에 일반적으로 받아들여지고 그후로 가필 수정이 없었던' 조건으로 설명한다. 메츠거는 “기본적인 의미로, 개개인 또는 공의회가 경전을 창조해낸 것이 아니며, 경전으로 받아들여질 만한 내용을 포함한 문서가 대중에 의해 인식되고 받아들여지게 되어, 이를 교회에서 사용할 경전으로 세우게 되는 것이다."라고 결론을 내렸다.[7]
