Reply tool as a Beta Feature[편집]
Hello, User:Leemsj2075 and other editors,
I have good news for you.
The mw:Editing team held the mw:Talk pages consultation 2019 last year. mw:Talk pages project/replying is the first major tool that they built because of that consultation.
Right now, the tool is available at the French, Arabic, Dutch, and Hungarian Wikipedias as a Beta Feature. The Editing team is making a short list of Wikipedias that will get the new 'Reply' tool as a Beta Feature next week. About 8 more Wikipedias will get access to the Reply tool. It will be opt-in. To use the tool, you will have to go to Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-betafeatures and turn on the tool. If you don't turn it on, nothing will change for you.
The Korean Wikipedia is currently on their list. I have been using the Reply tool at many wikis, and I love it. However, if, for some reason, you do not want this Wikipedia to get access to this tool next week, then please tell me as soon as possible. Otherwise, I will assume that it's okay. - @Whatamidoing (WMF): So great! I'm looking forward to deploying this tool at kowiki. But I wonder why tool doesn't sometimes work in 위키백과:사랑방_(기술) (not 위키백과:사랑방_(기술)/2020년_7월) and whether the tool will be applied to mobile skin. — 밝은소년 2020년 8월 2일 (일) 14:03 (KST)
- Not for the mobile skin – now. It may be added later.
- There are some limits in the Reply tool. Some of these are temporary. Sometimes, the problem is that it can't figure out where the signature is. (It can't find a signature in Tech News or the Editing newsletter, for example.) And sometimes the problem is formatting on the page (like a fancy box drawn around the whole page). - @Whatamidoing (WMF): I tried in 위키백과:사랑방 (기술) again and found that the tool doesn't work only at the specific line or paragraph(it keeps changing which paragraph is). The problem had appeared a few hours ago only at the opinion you posted just above, but now it is coming up at 위키백과:사랑방 (기술)#글 숨김. By the way, as you may know, maybe the tool only recognizes the line with both plain wiki links to user pages (or others) and a timestamp. (similar to requirements to ping :3) Unfortunately it also doesn't recognize lines with {{Unsigned}} like this. — 밝은소년 2020년 8월 3일 (월) 23:50 (KST)
- PPelberg (WMF) will ask the devs about the error message today.
- 밝은소년, does the Korean Wikipedia "subst" unsigned templates, or regular ones? phab:T250516 reports some problems, and they mostly seen to happen with regular templates instead of templates that don't use "subst". - I think so too ;) Anyway, @Whatamidoing (WMF): we "subst" unsigned templates. Although almost everyone uses unsigned tl without a timestamp, tool also doesn't recognize it even if I add it with both username and timestamp. — 밝은소년 2020년 8월 5일 (수) 00:24 (KST)
- @밝은소년 Hey, I'm one of the developers for the reply tool, I've looked at these two problems and I have some questions and suggestions:
- About "The … link cannot be used to reply to this comment" (T259653): The problem occurs because the page 위키백과:사랑방 (기술) transcludes the subpages for each month dynamically. We can't fix it in the software, but I've found a way to change the syntax this page uses to make it work with the reply tool, like this: [1]. Do you think that would be okay to do? Also, do you know if there are any other pages that use similar syntax?
- About missing reply links for the "unsigned" template (T259737): The problem occurs because the output of the template has the date and time before the username, while the normal order in signatures is the opposite – username before the date and time. Do you think the template could be changed? If it can't, then we can try to change the software to detect this, but it seems to me that it would be much easier to change the template.
