남가새과는 속씨식물의 과로 약 250종의 식물을 포함하고 있다.
속씨식물 계통분류 그룹(AGP II)에 의하면, 남가새과는 목으로 따로 분류하지 않지만 몇몇의 목들과 함께 식물군을 구성하여, 자매그룹으로써 진정장미군 I에 포함된다. 남가새목의 하위 과로 분류될 수도 있다.
