의료사고(醫療事故, medical error) 또는 의료과실(醫療過失)은 최선을 다했다면 예방가능한 부작용을 말한다. 전세계적으로 2013년에 142,000명이 의료사고로 죽은 것으로 추정되었다. [1] 그러나 2016년 미국의 연구에서 연간 251,454 명이 미국에서 의료사고로 죽은 것으로 추정된 것에서 보아 2013년의 국제적인 추정치는 아마도 정확하지 않은 것으로 보인다.[2][3]
