Sgt. W.D. Horner (CP 1194), National Museum of Health and Medicine
Description: Sergeant W.D. Horner, Company B, 21st Pennsylvania Cavalry, who received a gunshot wound to his right arm at the battle of Farmsville, Virginia on April 5th, 1865. The wound became ulcerous. Attended by Dr. J.C. McKee. Caption reads: “Penetrating condition of gunshot wound. Sgt. W.D. Horner Co. B. 21st Pa. Cavy.”
History is on reverse: “Lincoln General Hospital. Washington, D.C., June 27th, 1865. Pavilion 5. Bed 45.—Name: W.D. Horner, Sergt. Co. B 21st Pa. Cavalry. Admitted to Hospital April 16th, 1865, with gunshot (flesh) wound of right arm near elbow, interior aspect, received at Farmsville, Va., April 5th, 1865. Admitted to Pav. 5, May 18th, 1865, with an extensive phagedaenic ulcer of right arm near elbow joint. June 2nd, 1865, patient convalescing. Photographed at Lincoln General Hospital. J.C. McKee, Surgeon, U.S.A., in charge.
