매코이 타이너(영어: McCoy Tyner, 1938년 12월 11일 ~ 2020년 3월 6일)는 펜실베이니아주 필라델피아 출신의 재즈 피아니스트로, 존 콜트레인 콰르텟과 오랜 솔로 활동을 하는 것으로 유명하다.[1]
타이너는 자비스 타이너의 형이며, 미국 공산당 간부 부회장이다.[2] 법적으로 타이너의 형은 고인이 된 베이시스트 스티브 데이비스이다.[3]
생애
[편집]타이너는 필라델피아에서 세 아이 중 장남으로 태어났다. 그는 어머니의 격려를 받아 피아노를 공부했다 그는 13살에 피아노를 공부하기 시작했고 2년 만에 음악이 그의 삶의 중심이 되었다. 17살 때, 그는 아마디야 이슬람 공동체를 통해 이슬람으로 개종했고, 자신의 이름을 술리에만 사우드로 바꾸었다.[4] 2020년 3월 6일 Tyner는 81세의 나이로 뉴저지주 버겐필드에 있는 자택에서 사망했다고 그의 가족은 트위터에 성명을 발표했다. 사인은 밝혀지지 않았지만 건강이 좋지 않았다.
