페르 귄트

페르 귄트(Peer Gynt)는 노르웨이의 극작가, 헨리크 입센의 극으로 전체 5막 38장으로 구성되어 있다. 이 페리 귄트는 아스비욘센과 헨리크 입센이 노르웨이 구드브란스달 지방에서 수집한 민담을 기초로 만든 운문극이다. 헨릭 입센이 페르 귄트를 쓴 것은 1867년으로, 이것은 일종의 레제 드라마였지, 연극 무대를 위한 작품이라고는 할 수 없었다.

시대적 배경은 18세기 초부터 이 드라마가 씌어진 1860년대에 이르는 반세기였고, 공간적 배경은 작가의 고국인 노르웨이의 산악 지대에서부터 북아프리카의 모로코와 이집트까지, 너무 광대하여 연극 무대에 올리기에는 무리가 있다고 볼 수밖에 없는 드라마였던 것이다. 등장 인물도 100여명에 달했고, 그 중에서는 트롤 같은 요괴에서부터 미치광이, 사기꾼, 선장, 유목민 베두인족 등 여러 대륙에 걸쳐 흥미 있는 존재와 전설적인 비현실적 존재까지 나타난다.

후에 에드바르 그리그에 의해 페르 귄트 모음곡이 만들어지기도 했다.
