재규격화

물리학에서, 재규격화(再規格化, renormalization) 혹은 되맞춤이란 이론에서 생기는 여러 값을 건드림이론에서 고차원적 수정을 고려하기 위해, 이론의 상수를 형식적으로 바꾸는 과정이다. 양자장론이나 통계 물리학 등 자기반복적 구조를 갖는 계에서 필요하다. 특히, 대부분의 양자장론 이론에서는 건드림이론으로 수정한 상수가 발산하기 때문에 재규격화하여 상수를 관찰된 값으로 유한하게 만들 수 있다. (완전히 유한한 양자장론도 있지만, 이러한 경우에도 건드림이론을 사용하려면 재규격화가 필요하다.) 물리학적으로, 재규격화란 어떤 에너지 스케일을 지나면 물리 이론을 더 이상 적용할 수 없기 때문에, 고에너지에서의 무식을 나타낸다. 재규격화라는 이름은 어떤 크기에서, 물리량의 기준(normalization)을 다시(re-) 세워준다는 뜻이다.

재규격화에는 여러가지 방식(scheme)이 있는데, 흔히 쓰이는 것으로는 최소뺄셈방식과 수정 최소뺄샘방식, 질량 껍질 위 방식 (on-shell scheme) 등이 있다.
