KLM Asia was the special subsidiary of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines, based in Taiwan, that was responsible for flights to Taipei, as until recently, mainland China banned most airlines serving Taiwan from operating services to China. Although that requirement is no longer in place, and KLM Asia no longer exists, its aircraft continue to bear the special KLM Asia livery, which lacks the Dutch and European Union flags as well as the royal crown.
At LAX, KLM brings in one 747-400 from Amsterdam a day, and it is the only nonstop service between the two cities.
KLM's Boeing 747-400 fleet is registered as PH-BFx, and each one is named after a world city served by KLM whose name starts with whatever letter occupies the "x" space.
This aircraft, heading back to one of my least favorite cities in the world (Amsterdam), bears the name of one of my favorite cities in the world (Hong Kong).
