꼬리치과(Ateleopodidae)는 조기어류 과의 하나이다. 꼬리치목(Ateleopodiformes)의 단형과이다. 현재 4속 12종으로 분류하고 있지만, 분류학적으로 보완이 필요하다.

학명은 모식속인 꼬리치속(Ateleopus)의 학명을 따서 지었다. "아텔레오푸스"(Ateleopus)는 고대그리스어에서 "불완전함"을 의미하는 "아텔리스"(atelís, ἆτελής)와 "발"(foot)을 의미하는 "푸스"(pús, πούς)를 조합한 단어에서 유래했으며, 이는 꼬리치속 물고기의 가슴지느러미와 배지느러미가 불완전하게 짧기 때문이다.
